CHENNAI: Ten visually challenged students were awarded certificates for Post Graduation Diploma in Computer Application at a valedictory function held at the Tamil Nadu Association of the Blind (TAB) recently. Certificates were distributed by C Rajan, assistant general manager, Personnel and Administration, Ashok Leyland Ltd.
K V Packirisamy, founder and president , Tamil Nadu Association of the Blind, said that the association had been offering different training programmes for the visually challenged to provide better life by creating job opportunities. Sakthivel, computer instructor, said that the visually challenged students were taught MS Office, software installation, audio conversion among other applications with the help of screen readers to guide them. PGDCA course will provide the students job opportunities in corporate offices, call centers and BPOs as the course is certified by Jawaharlal Nehru Universtiy. Students who have completed their graduation and are under the age of 21-35 are eligible for the course. The course is offered free of cost. The next batch will commence on October 8. The classes will be conducted from 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday.
