Subject: [AI] XRCVC facilitates launch of inclusive, accessible restaurant menus

It’s a Happy Diwali with the launch of inclusive, accessible restaurant menu cards for the visually impaired! A unique three-in-one accessible restaurant menu card was launched at the Bombay Blue multi-cuisine restaurant group in Mumbai for visually impaired and low-vision persons – one you can read with your fingers, eyes, or even ears! A menu card with such diverse accessibility features is being launched for the first time in India, and perhaps even the world. This is an attempt to provide comfort and independence to visually impaired and other print-disabled persons, and to ensure that they can order from the menu without any assistance. The menu card features food items and prices in a large font and in Braille. Each item has a corresponding audio sticker with the same information and an additional description that can be accessed by an audio labeller pen. The menu card was launched by Bollywood actors Neha Dhupia, Aditi Sharma and Divyendu Sharma at Bombay Blue’s Bandra outlet recently. These Accessible, Inclusive Menu Cards were conceptualised and developed by the Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC), Mumbai, and created at Chanakya Mudrak Pvt Ltd, New Delhi, Radio Mirchi contributed by adding audio to all the menus for Pan India Food Solutions unique venture. Appended below are some links to media coverage about the event. 1. http://www.indiainfoline.com/article/news-sector-hotels-tourism/radio-mirchi-bombay-blue-launches-audio-and-braille-menu-114101700336_1.html 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNS8wSnRRtM Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Sam Taraporevala, Director, Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC) said, “Visually impaired persons and those with print disability enjoy dining out, like anyone else. We hope that these accessible, inclusive menus will make the experience more pleasurable for them. The concept behind this unique accessible menu opens up many possibilities for creating an Equal Opportunity Society whereby information can be accessed through one’s fingers, eyes and ears.” Mr. Inder Kumar Arora, Director, Chanakya Mudrak Ltd added, “As a technology driven Print house, we feel honoured to be associated with this project. Our little contribution in this direction is a small step towards making prints accessible to all. We congratulate XRCVC, Radio Mirchi and Bombay Blue for taking this initiative and making it Possible!” Bon appétit! If you’re in Mumbai, do visit your nearest Bombay Blue outlet in to dine with utmost ease. Bombay Blue, is a multi-cuisine restaurant which has a diverse menu catering to all section of age groups. It’s diverse menu consisting of Indian, Italian, Mexican, Lebanese, Sizzlers, and Beverages – presenting a tempting choice for food lovers across all segments. The XRCVC (www.xrcvc.org) is a state-of-the-art support and advocacy unit promoting holistic accessibility for the visually challenged.
