I am not sure you have noticed it. Adobe generates the following warning message after installation in windows xp. Follow it if you have not done it.

Update Adobe Reader to the latest version, confirm whether you cannnot
view the contents of a specific PDF file or all PDF files, ensure that
your PDF files are in Unicode, if using JAWS then try FS Omnipage and
if using NVDA try the OCR addon, otherwise uninstall and reinstall
Adobe Reader or try some other PDF reader.
