If you are using IMAP, then you need to backup a different file. See slipstick.com for details. 2. You can copy the file to any location on your computer and point Outlook to that file. 3. As for favorites, copy the favorites folder under your user profile and copy it back once you upgrade. 4. I cannot comment on outlook's account settings.
