Visually-challenged girls come out in flying colours
With all the 22 girls emerging successful, the Government Higher
Secondary School for the Blind in Tiruchi has recorded 100 per cent
pass in the Plus Two examination this year. Three students -
T.Hemalatha (1,020), M.Sivarajani (1,019), and K.Preetha (1,015) -
have come out in flying colours by scoring more than 1,000 marks.
Ms.Hemalatha completed her SSLC examination through the Indian
Association for Blind and joined Plus One at Tiruchi School. "I was
not aware that there was an exclusive school for blind girls and I had
to struggle hard to pursue my education till class 9 under normal
stream," she said. "I worked hard for seven to eight hours a day, said
Hemalatha, who wanted to become an IAS officer. Special efforts taken
by the headmistress and teachers encouraged students to work hard and
achieve laurels, said Saminathan, District Disabled Welfare Officer.
Vijayakumari, headmistress of the school, said that she identified
slow learners and organised special coaching for them. Frequent tests,
particularly during the pre-half-yearly period, helped students score
well. NAGAPATTINAM: Another visually-challenged girl, who studied in a
regular school, has registered impressive achievement in Nagapattinam.
S.Keerthana, a student of Municipal Higher Secondary School in the
town, had secured 1,139 marks with centum in three subjects: Auditing,
Practical I and II. Teachers helped me understand the subjects better
by putting in special efforts in helping me understand them.
S.Palanisamy, District Collector, honoured her with a memento and
appreciated her. I want to become a teacher, said Keerthana, who
wishes to pursue under-graduation in English literature. Chandramohan,
District Disabled Welfare Officer, was among those present.
