An excellent (freeware, btw) file splitter and joiner is HJSplit. Versions available for all major platforms (and then some); MS-DOS, 16-bit WIndows, 32-bit WIndows, OS/2, Linux, AmigaDOS, Mac, and a Java version that can be run from a browser on any platform that has Java installed. They also have a tiny (44kb) program called HJJoin which you can download and not worry about having to put IT together. HJJoin is for 16-bit and 32-bit Windows only.
