NOTE: Netzero only has local access numbers in the 50 U.S. states. ----------------------- For those of you with no internet access: OK A lot of folks have begged for it so I've also posted a UUE of NetZero version 1.4 at my site. I've split NetZero version 1.4 into 96 50K Wincode uuencode sections for retrieval from email only accounts. Please create and use a download only email account to retrieve these sections and NOT the account you've subscribed to the list under. http://members.xoom.com/netbyeml/netzero/uuencode/netzer01.uue " " http://members.xoom.com/netbyeml/netzero/uuencode/netzer96.uue Limit your requests to about 10 UUE sections at a time. Retrieve those and then send for the next 10 and so on until you have all the sections. ============================ For those of you limited full internet access: (Library Account, School, Friends house etc...) NetZero can be downloaded to floppy at my site. http://members.xoom.com/netbyeml/netzero/floppy/ Download "netzero_00.exe", "netzero_01", and "netzero_02" each to its own blank floppy disk by putting the mouse pointer on the filename and right clicking. From the popup menu select "Save Link As" and save to floppy. Also download "readme.1st" for instructions on how to recombine the sections. The author's site for the file splitter I used is at http://www.sarasoft.com/ ===================================== For those of you with FULL internet access: Download in full from "http://members.xoom.com/netbyeml/netzero/isp/netzero.exe" or http://www.netzero.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Dec 1998 11:28:05 -0500 From: "Manuel Hdez. But there seems to be a problem when I try to register my address. It sends an error message saying REGISTER failed with error unable to connect server Does this mean I can't register? So far it only serves the greaster area in and around Seattle, Wa. I looked at thier web pages and they say plan to do a slow nationwide rollout in between the 1999-2000 years. If you live in these areas check them out. I learned about them from a posting on Juno Accmail-L. Says it's much faster than NetZero. The first "Mime-Version: 1.0" and the second "Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64" Both of these uniquely state that this message is a MIME encoded message. In fact, there should also be a MIME attachment named "hadith76.doc" which is probably some word-processing document. To decode these you will need a MIME decoder. Modern PC E-mail programs come with these decoders built-it. In your case I'd suggest that you look at Section =10= in Bob Appleton's Email4U document to get one. The digest is sent out about midnight US EST (Eastern Standard Time) and is made up off the questions and answers that were sent on that day. Usually, 20-25 questions per weekday, less on weekends. You can change your subscription to receive individual postings rather than the digest. Individual postings are sent as soon as I approve them. Lately, this has been in the 8-10:00 AM US PST time frame. Sometimes, I also approve postings in the afternoon or all day long. It depends upon what else I'm doing. This list is used by some 2800+ users world-wide to futher develop their skills at Accessing the Internet by E-mail. The list expands upon the topics that are shown in Dr. Bob's Guide of the same name. -- Gerry Boyd -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Dec 1998 13:26:59 -0800 From: "Gerald E. I tried via the web page again today and still received the same answer. I sent another note to their admin. But I hold very little hope for resolution. This server has been out of commission since the 5th of October. However, it now does work with a daily query. Supposedly, the stored queries were to be made available to users starting about 16Dec98 -- but I guess that isn't true. -- Gerry Boyd -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Dec 1998 23:02:07 +0200 From: Uzi Paz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: pop3 ? > Date: Sat, 26 Dec 1998 14:20:55 +0700 > From: Eko Priono <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Not entirely true. Not all ISPs has support > for this, though. Not entirely true? The XMIT extension is a non-standard, non-recommended extension to the POP3 protocol, and for this reason I ignored it in my previous message, (cf. ftp://ftp.iana.org/internet-drafts/draft-hansen-pop3-xtndext-00.txt) As with the SMTP for receiving messages, I didn't say that it is impossible to use SMTP for receiving messages via SLIP or PPP. Just that While POP3 uses pulling, SMTP (standard) uses pushing of messages. If you are using a connection which is not permanent (e.g. via SLIP or PPP), then the mail will be pushed to your mailbox again and again, until a successful transmission, this is very uneconomical if the computers which receive the messages are not connected permanently to the Internet, but it doesn't mean that you cannot use SMTP for that. Again, as I said in my previous post, there is now a discussion about generalizing SMTP for relaying, and perhaps, experimentally some servers already use those extensions.
