For 1A, see 2. For 1B, I HATE SPAM! For 2: mail programs are far from the same, but I have seen people using pegasus (I think) mail program macros as an auto-responder. These include a form of SPAM filter, as well as auto-responder that send one of many files, based on requests in the Subject: line. -- | [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jerel. --- . ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 02:45:12 +0300 From: albassam <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: searching for persons on the iternet This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0147_01BE428C.9215A7E0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="windows-1256" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi, Accmailers, can you please tell is there is a way to search for persons on the = iternet through the e-mail. we still do not have internet full access = in our country.? thanks in advance. ------=_NextPart_000_0147_01BE428C.9215A7E0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="windows-1256" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD W3 HTML//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Dwindows-1256" = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D'"MSHTML 4.72.3110.37"' name=3DGENERATOR> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Hi, Accmailers,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>can you please tell is there is a way = to search for=20 persons on the iternet through the e-mail. we still do not have = internet=20 full access in our country.?</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>thanks in = advance.</FONT></DIV></BODY></HTML> ------=_NextPart_000_0147_01BE428C.9215A7E0-- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 06:01:31 GMT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: FTPMail, Agora, etc. statistics FTPMail, Agora, etc. statistics for Sun 17 Jan 1999, posted Mon 18 Jan, 06:00 GMT/BST Less than 1 hour [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] 1-4 hours [EMAIL PROTECTED] 4-10 hours None More than 10 hours None Response within 4 hours in at least 5 out of 7 recent tests [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] This data is generated automatically around 0600 GMT/BST most days. Believe it or not, some other lamer from this list copied and sent the same request!!! Absolutely unbelievable!!! Secondly, many of the sysdamins at the E-mail only server sites have "ban" lists in effect to prevent certain sites from being accessed. So sending for this "junk" won't do any good at all. All this is doing is causing a hardship for the rest of us as many of the E-mail only servers disappear. -- Gerry Boyd -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 10:50:33 -0800 From: "Gerald E. You can't. Once upon a time the members to a LISTSERV mailing list had the ability to receive a list of subscribers. However, with the advent of "spam" most all LISTSERV mailing lists ceased allowing the retrieval of the subscriber list. Only the administrators of the list can get the names and addresses. This is done to prevent unscrupulous individuals from signing on to a mailing list, getting a list of subscribers, and then unsubscribing from the list. -- Gerry Boyd -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 14:01:42 -0500 From: Stephen Benjamin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Why we are losing servers [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: >but mr. abdul jalil didn't do anything wrong by accmailing for >self-gratification, as long as he doesn't do any harm to other >people, no matter how basic his interest appears to be. let's ask >ourselves, should we feel ashamed if we want to retrieve a webpage >of, say, a recipe, simply because appetite is a low-end need? I run the Web-And-Files bot ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and it is *my choice* what sites a user can and can't request from it. It is the same with every other ACCMAIL server out there. The administrator has the choice whether or not to allow access to such sites. I do not. If I see a user has requested something (1) illegal or (2) pornographic, they are added to my ban list. First of all, I don't want to get in trouble if someone accesses something illegal using my bot because it will go back to me, not them. And I don't want people clogging my bot with requests for pornography because it just slows everything down for those who are using it for a real purpose -- i.e. getting some Mozart music or a recipe from the internet. If someone wants to look at pornography or do illegal things, they can go pay for an ISP. The reason that SO MANY servers are defunct is because of abuse. If pornography and illegal material were to completely disappear from the internet I would bet that there would be a lot fewer defunct servers. >yes, we do need to be sensitive about other people's feelings. when >posting to this list, we'd better be selective when choosing >examples. and it's unnecessary to disclose our personal interests on >the net, as well as other people's, even we are doing some work of >criticism. fortunately, all that I've posted here is morally and >politically correct according to the standard of most people (devout >Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and serious communists...), now I >know I should continue this way, otherwise who knows what kind of >trouble might fall on my head. Morals are the same everywhere -- they are not relative. Murder is wrong be it in China or Russia, and it is the same with pornography.
