Start with RFC-2076, then look at the ones that it references. There
should be an updated version out by now, with a new number, but this is a

As it says in one or more of the FAQ's:

1: Get the page source.
2: Convert the URL's in the FRAME tags in the FRAMESET section to full

Subject: List of Simtel.Net authorized mirror sites (revised 19980815)
Keywords: simtel,msdos,win3,win95,win98,freeware,shareware,archive

Simtel.Net is Keith Petersen's worldwide distribution network for
Shareware, Freeware, and Public Domain programs for MS-DOS, Windows 3.x,
and Windows 95/98.

ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/ is the primary distribution site for
these collections. FTP.Simtel.Net is actually several ftp sites arranged
in a rotating pattern of IP addresses to help balance the load and to
avoid access problems due to network outages and simultaneous user
limits.
At the present time ftp.cdrom.com, ftp.ou.edu and oak.oakland.edu are the
primary sites. Our files are located in the /pub/simtelnet directory
tree on these hosts.

The following sites are authorized mirrors of Simtel.Net as of the time
of this posting. This list will be updated as new sites are added.

Subject: Findinig fast the right file.

Dear AccMailers:

INTRODUCTION

Usually I save ACCMAIL postings as text files. When I look for some
information that is contained in one of that files I work with the
built-in file-finder of my Win95 Explorer. This file-finder shows a
field in which the string of one's interest must be typed.

THE QUESTION

Does anybody knows a text file-finder program able to search for
two strings? Not just one.

THE IDEAL PROGRAM

Free, email-only available, very small and easy to use.

Thanks.

mr. boyd's "getit4u" teaches us how to carry out the yahoo search using
the japanese agora server:

TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
send http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=xxxxx+yyyyy+zzzzz

his instruction is very helpful, only that agora is quite busy these
days.

I've tried to send the same requests to the italian www4mail server and
the canadian one, and glad to see that they worked as well.

since the www4mail servers react much faster than agora, I suggest we
all make use of them.

besides the "send" command, we also can use the "tsource" command here,
it will return *.htm files. I know, some of us do prefer to read .htm
files with a web browser (I am one of them).

Nobody is able to get this file, not only accmailers. It's error of
page's author, most probably result of careless use of a carelessly
written HTML editor. When the author checks the page on own HDD,
it works. After uploading to web-server this link ceases to work.
So "thank" sloppy authors: of editor and of page.

> How do I open the file with the "max"
> extension ?

The author could use extension field as continuation of filename,
i.e. "max" here may not mean exact format of file's content.
It's especially probable if page's author uses DOS or Windows 3
(because of their 8+3 limit of filename's length).

Subject: ??FTPMail, Agora, etc. statistics??

Hi

I'm a email only user. I find the "FTPMail, Agora, etc.
statistics" very very useful. I get the statistics with
the ACCMAIL posts as well as from subscribing to the
performance report. Don't mind getting two of the same,
helps if one gets lost or delayed, and it happens quite
frequently(I'm sure the delays and deletes happens from
this end at my ISP).

I like to suggest that it have a SUBJECT line with the
date of Statistic. Instead of " FTPMail, Agora, etc. statistics"

Something like . . .
 Mail2Web Statistics for Fri 5 Mar 1999, posted Sat 6 Mar, 06:00 GMT/BST
 Mail2Web Statistics posted Sat 6 Mar, 06:00 GMT/BST
Statistics for Fri 5 Mar 1999

This would make it easier to identify the newest edition
of a copy in a mailbox folder. Even if its filtered to a
Mbox it would make sense.

Must confess that I'm not sure if this is a easy thing to
get the software to do this.

A good guess would be that the URL indicated is relative to the one you
fetched with Getweb; try merging the two addresses if you haven't done so.
(There may be a '..' hiding there somewhere)

>
> How do I open the file with the "max"
>extension ?

Mucking about with the links to/from the web page (if that's what you
fetched) should give you
a clue on what type of file it is.

There were some discussions a while ago on this list about file name
extensions and reference sources for the same - you could search the
archives for them. To start you off with listserv commands, you could send
a mail to

[EMAIL PROTECTED] <--(where ACCMAIL is hosted)
Subject: HELP
Body: Help

which should guide you on how to proceed.

A couple of other things you could try -

Search the Altavista engine using a link:URL search to find pages which
link to your resource. Troll a search engine for the strings "*.max" and
"file extension". Email methods are in the FAQ. Or perhaps search for
other references to the file in question. Or use the ftp search engine for
other files with the same extension.

The point I'm trying to make is, in most cases a little common sense and a
bit of digging will go a long way. I have found quests of the sort you
face more of an interesting challenge - better than any puzzle! In this
way, if you are in the accmailing business for any length of time, you will
eventually develop a set of templates for what looks a daunting task at
first.

Do get back to the list with the results from attacking your problem!
