You could subclass AuthenticationProcessingFilter and override the successfulAuthentication() method. This method redirects to either the defaultTargetUrl or the requestedTargetUrl. The default implementation of this method is defined in the AbstractProcessingFilter class. Take a look at it. The code is easy to follow.
