I am sorry, but I missed this conversation.

In my case is just the opposite: I know Perl more than Python and usually
prefer Perl over Python, because in my experience Perl proved to be easier to
port across several
systems with predictable results.
However I do not see any great problem with using Python for scripting, if you
are confortable with it.

I think in the long run it would be much more useful to rewrite things in
pure-ANSI-C, rather than python. I do not see much benefit switching between
two scripting
languages, while writing it in ANSI-C, if properly done, will allow to have a
library of functions that can be accessed from many high level and low level
languages.
In any case I will suggest to remove the extension in the scripts in bin/. This
will avoid confusion in case of language switching.
Bests,
Giulio.

Try New Relic Now & We'll Send You this Cool Shirt
New Relic is the only SaaS-based application performance monitoring service
that delivers powerful full stack analytics. Optimize and monitor your
browser, app, & servers with just a few lines of code. Try New Relic
and get this awesome Nerd Life shirt! http://p.sf.net/sfu/newrelic_d2d_may
