Summary: computer does not wake up after going to sleep, reset
button does not work
Kernel Version: 2.6.15-git7, 2.6.15-git8 2.6.15-git9
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur:
I do not know. With older kernels (last time I tried was AFAIR 2.6.11), the box
came
back after hitting the reset-button, but did not wake up on pushing the power
button, too. I
am trying additional kernels over the weekend, have to watch my net-traffic :(

I ran the script after starting X. When I try to set the computer into sleep
mode, the nvidia
module is not loaded (!) (not even built and installed) and X not started.
Problem Description:
After doing an 'echo mem > /sys/power/state' the computer goes
down and never comes back. It reacts on pushing the power button with flashing
the drives
lights, same with the reset button, but the monitor does not get any signals
and keyboard is
dead. Shutting down with the power button is possible (tried with git7) but the
box still does
not come back after that. The only way to get it working again is to remove
power to the
computer and force a cold boot that way (on on power loss is activated in
bios). There is
nothing in the logs. I did not try to set up a serial console, because I do not
have a spare
computer.
Steps to reproduce:
boot into new kernel (ie, normal boot).
Do not start X, do not load nvidia module.
echo mem > /sys/power/state (or echo 'mem' > /sys/power/state)
computer goes to sleep, Monitor goes into standby, keyboard is dead, usb mouse
still has
power.
computer reacts on pushing the power button with flashing of the harddrive and
dvd-drives
LEDs, nothing else happens, Monitor still in standby, keyboard dead
computer reacts on pushing the reset button with flashing the drives LEDs.
Nothing else
happens.
Pull the plug and put it back and the computer boots up normaly.
This is dmesg output immidiatly before doing the echo:
