Browsing the various dmesg of failed and non failed boots suggests, it might 
have to do with e100_probe more than with e100_up. Is that possible?

That patch doesn't make any difference.

However once I trigger the bug, if found out it does not go away as easyily as

described, seems a powerdown is required. Sigh.
