I can confirm that power off at shutdown works fine with an IBM ThinkPad
A20m running Edgy with kernel 2.6.17-10-386. I tested and confirmed the
following as OK:

 * Boot with APM (default on this machine), shutdown from console using
"shutdown -h now";

 * Boot with APM (default on this machine), shutdown from Gnome using Lg
Out button, Shut Down;

 * Boot with ACPI=force, shutdown from console using "shutdown -h now";

 * Boot with ACPI=force, shutdown from Gnome using Lg Out button, Shut
Down.

If there is additional information that may be useful to determine why
it works here, please let me (specific command, boot options, etc.).
