OK, I see now why the quirk is no longer active. There is now an "#ifndef 
CONFIG_ACPI_SLEEP" around that block of code and that is enabled in the Debian 
kernel config.

I'd appreciate some background on this and advice how best to test:
- remove the #ifndef
- unset CONFIG_ACPI_SLEEP

I'd hope that the eventual goal is to have both the SMBus (and i2c) and proper 
sleep support :-)
