Bug still exists. The kernel has the GX240 blacklisted because of some buginess in the ACPI implementation on that motherboard so it disables it. That means that ACPI calls won't work and probably never will. Really the bug is this: Ubuntu only uses ACPI to halt, even if ACPI isn't present. I don't know if that's the case for the other reporters in bug #43961 but it's fairly likely. I will leave it to you, Philip, to judge if the problem this is in fact a duplicate based on this information and to break the duplicate link if it is not and post my thoughts there if it is.
