Summary: "Processor Device is not present" on boot, followed by
system halt
Product: ACPI
Version: 2.5
KernelVersion: 2.6.18, 2.6.21, 2.6.22
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
Severity: high
Priority: P1
Component: Config-Processors
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: N/A
Distribution: Debian stable, testing, unstable
Hardware Environment: Acer Aspire 5050-4570 (Turion64 MK-38)
Software Environment:
Problem Description: All three stock kernels I've tried and one I've compiled
give the following error on boot, and then halt:
ACPI Exception (processor_core-0781): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is not
present [20070126]
The 2.6.18(-5) kernel from Debian stable is the only one that will boot in
single-user mode; after the above message, it pauses on the following message
for several seconds and outputs what looks like a stack dump (goes by too
quickly for me to see it, and isn't in any of the system logs or dmesg):
Getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x01
Steps to reproduce: Install Debian on an Acer Aspire 5050-4570
