No, only in the case of s2ram it needs to be a special key (Fn+F7, or Fn+F3, or
Fn+{WhatHaveYou}; a combo of your average pair of special laptop keys). The
wait with s2disk can be shortened by pressing a couple of 'any' keys.

One thing I have sometimes noticed (also occurred with nolapic_timer, and some
other combinations of kernel-parameters I don't quite remember) is that the
special thinkpad fancontrol script seems to lose control over the fan, but
restarting it makes it work again. But that's probably too particular to be of
any use.
I admit that the symptoms are quite varied, and I don't always remember all
situations and symptoms. But I try to be as precise as possible :-)
