From the log in comment #26 it seems that the VIDEO driver has done the right thing after pressing the 'lower backlight' button. ( Receiving the 0x87 notify and call the _BCM AML code to decrease the brightness). Will you please confirm whether the backlight can work well after ACPI_VIDEO is enabled?
