please attach the result of "xrandr --verbose".
what can you see following the BACKLIGHT_CONTROL line?
There are four modes inall, and try some other modes and see if it helps.
e.g. you can set it to native mode by running "xrandr --output LVDS --set
BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native".
