I built this kernel from Fedora sources, kernel-2.6.36-1.fc15:

In processor_perflib.c, starting at line 414 I see:

    if (result)
        goto update_bios;

    /* We need to call _PPC once when cpufreq starts */
    if (ignore_ppc != 1)
