kernel logs, default vs. pci=noapic
Hello,
my problem began with Wake-On-Lan issues, i.e. it never(*) really worked with
Linux. The onboard NIC didn't work and and an extra NIC also failed (both
configs worked perfectly with Windows 7, btw.).
All the usual tipps (ethtool -g in suspend scripts, etc.) did not help. Finally
I discovered something weird in the ACPI wakeup list, many devices were not
present in the list of pciids, and I was also not able to re-enable them with
"acpitool -W ..." or by sending values to related 'wakeup' files in sysfs.
This leads to a closer examination of PCI configuration of this system, and I
see that with pci=noapic, there is a late event which re-enables PME for NICs
on additional PCI busses (0000:00:02.0, 0000:01:00.0). But with the default
config, this never happens (see attachments).
I added the log files for the particular starts. Created with 3.2-rc7 but the
same happens with 3.2 and also happened with latest 2.6.x kernels, as far as I
remember.
My best idea so far was checking DSDT and recompiling it, and it displayed a
lot of errors. Maybe it's just a conincidence, maybe not, any hint is
appreciated.
(*) the only time I used WOL on this system before was back in 2009 and that
was with TuxOnIce patch and using real system shutdown and not ACPI S4.
