Am now using kernel 3.1 without problems.
echo disk > /sys/power/state
works fine.
It does NOT work in any of the 3.2.x series.
Attached is my syslog from the latest experiment with 3.2.4.
Using Slackware 13.37 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T510.
