I have overheating issues on my Thinkpad X24. I haven't used it for a while so
I can't say when things stopped working. I verified the problem with a 3.9.0
mainline kernel from around March 12. The OS is Ubuntu precise.

It appears that the problem is improper support for the fan which runs at the
same speed irrespective of temperature. Here is the output of sensors.

$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +75.0°C (crit = +95.0°C)

thinkpad-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
fan1: 0 RPM
temp1: +75.0°C
temp2: +63.0°C
temp3: +50.0°C
temp4: +0.0°C
temp5: +0.0°C
temp6: +0.0°C
temp7: +0.0°C
temp8: +0.0°C

If ambient temperatures are above 30 degrees and the computer is slightly used
the critical shutdown temperature of 95° for temp1 is frequently reached. This
results in an immediate shutdown of the system.

As you can see the fan is reported at 0 rpm even though it simply runs at a
steady pace and is never sped up or slowed down no matter the temperature.

Let me know what other information I can provide.
