Bug ID: 221404
Summary: ideapad-laptop: System freezes when AC power plugged
in or charging mode changes on IdeaPad Flex 5 14ALC7
(AMD Ryzen)
Product: ACPI
Version: 2.5
Hardware: All
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: Power-Battery
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Regression: No
On Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14ALC7 (82R9) running Arch Linux with kernel 6.19.12,
the system freezes completely when:
1. AC power is plugged in while the system is running (screen goes black, fans
spin up, hard freeze)
2. Battery charging mode changes (e.g., Conservation Mode switching at 80%)
The issue occurred on Windows 11 before OS reinstall, confirming it's not
OS-specific.
EC reset and BIOS update (JCCN44WW) did not fix the issue.
Workaround that partially works:
- Adding kernel parameter "acpi_enforce_resources=lax" prevents the freeze when
plugging in AC initially, but the system still freezes when charging mode
changes.
Device info:
- Model: LENOVO IdeaPad Flex 5 14ALC7 (82R9)
- BIOS: JCCN44WW (05/22/2025)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics
- Kernel: 6.19.12-arch1-1
The freeze happens even with the ideapad-laptop driver loaded, and the
acpi_enforce_resources=lax workaround suggests a resource conflict between
the driver and ACPI OperationRegions on AMD platforms.
A similar bug was reported for Lenovo Legion laptops:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ideapad-laptop/+bug/2068785
Steps to reproduce:
================
1. Boot with battery power
2. Plug in AC adapter while system is running
3. System freezes immediately
Expected behavior:
===============
AC power should be detected and charging should begin normally.
Additional info:
==============
- System boots and works fine on battery only
- System works when booted with AC already connected
- Conservation Mode (battery charge limit to 80%) is enabled
- When conservation mode tries to switch charging state, system freezes
