>Do you think the new Office tool - what's it called - InfoPath? - will have an impact on what you do? You could probably license InfoPath for your own consulting use and then sell that service to your clients. Just a thought; I haven't actually played with InfoPath yet, but according to the box it is very similar to Word/Outlook forms creation.
When InfoPath FIRST hit, I said to myself "crap, here's something new I'll have to learn cos' it'll eat into my forms work!" But that hasn't been the case. Why spend $$$$$$$ for an InfoPath server when you can do the same thing without it...IF YOU KNOW HOW. And if they come to me...*I* know how!<g> In fact, I JUST had my first consulting request for InfoPath ever. And I could have probably convinced her to go ADO cos' that's what her IT techs were telling her (no doubt they didn't want to mess with yet another server<eg>). But being too busy right now to take on another project...I passed her to Bill Coan who is the Office InfoPath/XML guru. He's moved on to heavy XML work...his article on the subject on MS being a big hit generator...so they can work it out. He's promised to let me know. But overall...it'll take some time for that type of stuff to catch on, if ever! Granted, InfoPath IS a great idea and can do some cool stuff...but it's yet more technology, servers, learning curve and something only the biggest companies seem to care about. At the 2003 launch in NYC, a CIO from Siemens demoed a way cool InfoPath app they'd build. Yes...cool. But for my average client...not something they could care less about.
