It sounds as though what you'd be doing is a fair distance from what you've
already been doing.

That is not necessarily a bad thing. It really depends on the relationship you
have with the client and the urgency of the project.

If the client is happy that you'd be working outside your comfort zone and
learning as you go (and presumably paying a discounted rate accordingly), then
go for it. That's exactly how I wrote my first couple of interactive intranet
applications - partly on my client's time and partly on my own, and with no
push to get things finished in a hurry.

No amount of book learning can compare with the experience gained from
implementing a real system.

As for help ... as long as you're doing the initial work and asking questions
only when you can't answer something yourself, you'll find everyone on this
group is very helpful.

If you decide (or need) to go the PHP way, I'm sure you'll find equivalent
groups that have people who are almost as nice. :-)

Good luck.

  Subject: [ASP] Dynamic Site

I have the opportunity to accept a project, but I am afraid it may
be way over my head. The client wants a site with similar
  funtionality as http://www.vacationrentals.com
I have done one dymamic website, using ASP in Dreamweaver but there
is no adding or editing or deleting of data in the database by
anyone except me. If the client needs changes, I make them locally
in MSAccess and the upload the database to replace the one on the
server. I sort of stumbled my way thru that, learning as I go, but
  many things are still fuzzy.
I have also worked with a shopping cart (Shopsite)which was pretty
easy. My question is, do I need a CMS for this kind of site? Is
there one that is equivlent to Shopsite, basically all set up and I
just have to tweak it? Or do I just bite the bullet, teach myself
ASP or PHP/MySQL (I have a book) and create what I need? Or am I
taking on too much for someone who has done mostly static sites and
  is still struggling with CSS!!
Any advise would help. And if there are any volunteers to be my
mentor if I must struggle thru it, I would appreciate it.
  Ellen
