Did you add .dmg to ExtensionMap.ini in the Active4D folder? It isn't
there by default. As a security measure, files with unknown
extensions will always return a 404.

In the extensionMap.ini file, I have
.DMG devi ddsk application/octet-stream
Despite this I get 404.
If it is the last entry in the file, make sure there is a linefeed at
the end of the line.
I just added the entry to my ExtensionMap.ini in the demo site, put
a .dmg somewhere within the web folder hierarchy, and it serves
correctly every time.
What is your "serve nonexecutables" setting?
