I have several databases running with Active4D and have never seen that A4D does slow down a PC/Mac or causes any harm. You should ask 4D what they are logging. There is (an old) TechNote database which analyses the log. Maybe Brendan didn't hide it away and you get an hold of it.

This is approximately 12,000 such calls per second. And this is while the site is "Idle". To avoid saturation of the drive, I cut the log file off
after 10MB, sometimes it seems like it's just a few seconds.
