False alarm. It turns out to be a side effect of running http pages out of port 8080.
4D Server 12.4 had to have it's "PrivilegedHelperTool" installed. The way to get 4D Server to do this is to start up the 4D server, go to File->Database Settings... Choose the "Web" tab and set the TCP Port to something in the Privileged range (< 1000) (ensure that Launch Web Server at Startup is checked) Restart 4D Server, and it will ask to install the PrivilegedHelperTool. The finder will then ask for the admin password. Enter that. Then reset the port in database setting to whatever it was before. Restart 4D Server and all is well. My thanks to Tim Penner at 4D Tech Support.
