Hi Arnor
I don't think you should have a problem. As far as DNS is concerned Domain Names are not case senstive. You might, however, want to try this in your test lab first! But I'm not really talking about changing the domain name. I just want to change the case from uppercase to lowercase? Or does this kind of change fit into the same category as a regular domain name change? If you've changed to native, you're done. Plus, you're only going to be able to bring across user, groups and computers. No GPO. At least until the release of .Net. 0. DCPromo down all DCs except for the one that holds the PDC Emulator role. If you've moved roles to other servers, move them all back to the DC that holds the PDC Emulator. 1. You're going to need a Windows NT 4.0 server to introduce as a BDC into the domain. 2. Synch the user databases. 3. Remove the exisiting Win2k server from the network. DO NOT plug it back in unless there is catastrophic failure. 4. Modify the DNS domain and host name in the DNS configuration of the TCP/IP properties of the NT 4.0 server to the domain name you WANT. 5. Promote the NT 4.0 server to the PDC. 6. Upgrade the new PDC to the new Win2k DC. 7. Once completed with the new domain name, test, test, test. 8. Once satisfied all is good, DCPromo down the old Win2k DC to a member server and re-introduce it as a member to your new domain. Promote it to be a new DC in the new domain. Hope this helps.... Convoluted, but it does work. It will, however, not allow you to modify the NetBIOS domain name. You're stuck with the downlevel name. Again, until .Net.
