In addition to the excellent references that Tony refers to, also
consider buying a copy of Gary Olsen's book from New Riders/MTP,
"Windows 2000 Active Directory Design and Migration".  Gary is an Active
Directory Design Engineer for Compaq and truly a very knowledgable guy,
plus he's great to talk to.  :-)

Here'a link to this book - this is one of the few books that has earned
a permanent place in my traveling library.
