They are slowly getting better. They now appear to have the
ability to use precreated machine accounts and join with non-domain admin
rights. I have been fighting for that change for most of the year.

Really, they don't HAVE to create it. It's an
option. Even if they do, you can remove it later. Either way, it's a
setup thing and not a requirement. You can find the information describing
how to change the behavior during setup in the supporting docs (there's a lot,
but I can't remember which one it's in).
