Honestly, I found it a bit of a surprise as well. However, there must be
something in his background or his talents that lend him to that end.

Interesting that RickD is now in charge of services. I find that infinitely
fascinating.

I see what you are saying with MS and the hardware and other networking
components. If MS was truly serious in this area, they would have to be able
to step a little more into those areas as well and I am sure really tick
some people off. I know quite a few MCS guys though that have sat down and
helped configure firewalls and UNIX DNS servers to make things work though
too. I doubt it is anything MS taught them versus knowing it on their own.
But then you always have that problem with consultants, it is what the
consultant knows, not what the company has taught them. If you have to
depend on what the consulting company teaches the consultant, admit you are
screwed right up front.

On the plus side, as long as that services/consulting group got a better
voice into the MS product line[1], this could seriously help MS in the real
world versus the theoretical best of all worlds world that a lot of stuff
seems to be made for.

[1] I would assume this would happen if this group became a solid consistent
high paying revenue stream.

I, more than many, would really appreciate Microsoft building up its
consulting ranks/headcount ;)

Until then, I don't think they can be considered as a serious player in the
consulting arena. I think they will never (by virtue of their culture) be
able to be a consulting organization that deals with end to end consulting;
they can't deal with hardware without really making other vendors/partners
irate for example. Same goes for software that Microsoft doesn't make,
networking equipment/OS, etc.

Compuware? I suppose they could since they claim to deal with 90% of the
fortunate 100.

Question to ask is how they get on the top 5 list. Is it by revenue?
Profits? Headcount? Did they make the list themselves? ??

I keep hearing rumours that MS is really going to be kicking its presence up
in consulting and services by adding thousands (or tens of thousands) of
analysts for it.

Oh and I thought of another possible one though I don't know how big they
are anymore... Compuware.

Accenture? Compucom? CSC?

I don't think MS would rank that high in the consulting arena.

What's a Cv? Pardon my ignorance, but that has me puzzled. I mean, before
Tony comes back online I'd like to know. :)
