Errr. Ok. :)

It really shouldn't have been necessary. ADAM at most should require a restart of the ADAM service and I wouldn't even expect that unless the service really got dorked up (technical term) by something. If it gives you trouble again, give that a shot and we can go from there.

After bouncing the ADAM server, I can bind with the ADAM user using DN without issue.  Not sure what was going on here . . .

If you used the correct bind string (DN/upn), the second most likely issue of an Invalid Credentials error on bind is a bad password.

I don’t have a UPN configured, but I tried using the DN of the user object with the same results.

Did you configure a userPrincipalName of NetPointBind for the userid? If not, you need to use the DN of the user object.

Subject: [ActiveDir] ADAM Bind with ADAM user account

I've brought up an ADAM instance on a member server.  I imported the MS-User.LDF and created a user in the configuration partition.  When I attempt to bind to the application partition using LDP from the ADAM server, I get:

res = ldap_simple_bind_s(ld, 'NetPointBind', <unavailable>); // v.3

Error <49>: ldap_simple_bind_s() failed: Invalid Credentials

Server error: <empty>

I’m using the correct password and have tried multiple userids (CN, DN, etc.)  Any one have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
