Brian, Pointsec is encryption software that will encrypt the file system as wel as the disks for mobile devices (think TPM and Bitlocker - but we can't wait for that). Check out www.pointsec.com . The DEV forest is quite small and the targeted DC is a proliant DL380 G3 with 2GB RAM and 6 disks (one RAID 1 for system and RAID 5 /w 2 partitions for the sysvol/dit and logs- 6th disk is a hot spare). Size of the DIT is only 50MB. We actually haven't allowed any production implementation (that forest is quite large - 3,5 GB dit). We'll now go over to the implementation and testing in our QA environment. But I wanted to know what experience other people have had with it. Vincent De Potter

What are the characteristics of the domain controllers in your test forest? How much memory? Disk config? How big is the DIT? I'm responsable for the DIrectory service and they've asked me to participate. I've set -up a development forest and let the Pointsec team loose on that one. I activated some perfmon counters to see the impact on one DC. Regarding LDAP queries it was quite ok (only 1 reference to an expensive one) but I saw some implication on the physical disks of the machine that were hit quite heavily. Also a collegue of mine could remember from his previous company that the roll out of that soft brought some issues along. Does anyone of you have experience with the implementation of Pointsec and the impact on the directory service (especially the boxes) in a large environment? _____________________________ Vincent De Potter Volvo Information Technology
