I would advise to get the latest source from trunk and building it.
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/activemq/trunk/
then run "mvn install -Dmaven.test.skip=true" using maven 2.x
I think there is still some kinks with the nightly build. I this where
you got the 4.1 distributions?
