Hi Jesse,

Thanks for the quick answer.
Yes your book is all right, if of course in our view here a bit light on the
Perl side... ;+D

The subject of "Windows Admin Scripting" in itself might have filled up even
a much larger book
(maybe the next edition ?) without even beginning to exhaust the subject,
but in its own special
category of examples instead of pages of text, this book has many useful
pieces, scripts and bits
from which one can learn to write his/her own using any of the so many
scripting tools now available
under Windows.

All this makes up for a very efficient and good introduction to these tools,
without the fluff that
takes so many pages of so many books.

Dave Roth's latest "Win32 Perl Programming: The Administrator's Handbook"
takes the same approach
and is a great addition to his previous "Win32 Perl Programming: The
Standard Extensions".
Both these are of course fully dedicated to Perl.

As for scripting suggestions, the ActivePerl mailing lists are a seemingly
inexhaustible source of them !
If you ever fancy adding Perl to the many scripting languages supported in
the next edition of your book,
you're definitely welcome here !

Best regards.

While the RMDIR command is internal to Windows NT's CMD.EXE, it is
not present in NT's COMMAND.COM. I understand your point that you can still
access it if you use CMD.EXE. Some lockdown environments restrict the use of
CMD.EXE, so the alternative is to use RMDIR.EXE as provided from the
Resource Kit.
When attempting to cram as much information as possible under such a
tight schedule, sometimes things get left out or misrepresented. Thanks for
being so thorough.
I hoped you enjoyed the book and I welcome your comments and
scripting suggestions. The only way Windows scripting will become popular is
if we all continue to share information like this.
        Thanks again.

RD /S /Q will remove a full directory tree including all files and
subdirectories without asking any question.
This is probably the most overlooked command in NT.
The 'Windows Admin Scripting Little Black Book' (Jesse M. Torres -
Coriolis Books) even goes so far as saying :
"As ridiculous as this may sound, Windows NT does not include a
command to delete folders." (p.53)
RD is a internal shell command. So lots of people are fooled by this
as they are looking for an EXE file.
But it does exist, and is actually powerful. So use caution !:
