Well maybe i can help. my example is using a Excel File
in your excel file you have a list of names.
[ ] A | B | C | D |
1 John Smith Morton 71234567 |
2 Juan Carlos Perez 5698745 |
# letters are the columns, and 1, 2, ... are the rows
if you make a select query like select * from my_excel_file where D =
5698745
# we want to know the name of the guy whit the security number 5698745
the result of that query, you store it in on Array, it will be like this
@MyArray=("Juan","Carlos","Perez","5698745")
So when you make a web script to show the info about that guy,
you print to screen the content of that Array.
And you know that the content of $MyArray[0] will be always the name.
So you make this code to print it to screen:
print "THE RESULT OF THE SEARCH IN MY EXCEL FILE IS:\n\n";
print "Name; $MyArray[0]\n";
print "Paternal Last Name: $MyArray[1]\n";
print "Materna Last Name: $MyArray[2]\n";
print "Security Number: $MyArray[3]\n";
This post remembers me when i started to learn by my self Perl,
beeing a Graphic Designer. Mmm ... imagine me trying to understand
what was a variable.
Keep Walking ... and you will crash against one Matrix (Not the Film)

Subject: Arrays for complete idiots...
Hello.
I'm in drastic need of a book or other reference on arrays. I think "Arrays
for Dummies" would probably be too complicated for me. For some strange
reason, I can do reverse Polish notation in my sleep, but when it comes to
arrays, well, my mind completely empties, my eyes glaze over, and I don't
hear a word the person who's trying, in vain, to teach me what they are and
how to use 'em... I simply slip away to some other planet. In fact, my
friend Maureen took two solid days attempting to teach me, until she
practically went running from the room pulling her hair out by the roots. I
don't know why, I've just got a block against them. Also, please don't head
me toward any books I might not find at the public library -- I'm on a fixed
income of $564.00/month USD.
Thanks in advance!
Jim Morton
