I had a script that did something like this a while back and it ran every ten minutes. Caused no end of headaches that first time it came up to a Standard/Daylight Saving boundry. That's one of the best selling points of modules. These issues have usually been addressed so you don't have to worry about them. Just use Date::Calc and you can subtract one day.
