The Linux version comes with IDLE (so does ActivePython), but it is written with Tkinter. So if you didn't compile your Linux python distro with Tkinter support, it won't work (if you installed a binary distro, it probably has Tkinter in it).
Anyway, look for idle.py. It's a pretty generic IDE, but it does get the job done.
