if you don't need to share the helpers among controllers you can just put the code you have in the helper into the controller. the reason that all your helpers are included is because you probably have this line in your ApplicationController
helper :all # include all helpers, all the time and most probably your controllers with the activescaffold inherit from ApplicationController... you see where this is going :) if you need to share the helpers among controllers you can remove the helper :all call from ApplicationController and add a specific call to helper in each controller.
