If you are using Windows2000 or WindowsXP I'd recommend either:

a) trying to update your MDAC components to the latest version:
www.microsoft.com/data
Don't forget to apply Jet Service Pack 6:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q282010&;

b) If this does not fix the problem, I think something is hosed in your MDAC
components - do an "in place" repair of your existing Windows2000/XP
installation. Your programs and settings will remain, but you will need to
reapply service packs (eg Win2k SP3), and hotfix updates.
