The predecessor of SQL (Structured Query Language) was SEQUEL (Structured
English QUEry Language) developed at IBM.

People today either call it "es que el" or "seekwell", either is acceptable.

Many Microsoft people call their product "seekwell" server, though most
people I've run into here call it "es que el" server.

Cheers
Ken

: According to "SQL Instant Reference" by Martin Gruber, SQL is pronounce
: "sequel". And yes, Sequel was an IBM product name for (one of?) their
: initial relational database product. Much of the development of the
: relational theory and the SQL language took place in the IBM research labs
: in the late 60's and early 70's.

: However the heck you wanna say it :-). I say ASP, I rarely pronounce
: acronyms (except for SCSI [scuzzy]). In the case of SQL, sequel is an
: old IBM (I think) product, and thus sequel is not the same as SQL.
