Purdue has a policy glossary found here: http://www.purdue.edu/policies/glossary.html. It was created about a year ago as a way to reduce the length of system-wide policy documents by eliminating the need to include common definitions. As you can see by the glossary, it's pretty concise and the definitions are very high level. As policies are updated, they include a statement at the beginning of the definitions section that links to the policy glossary for additional definitions. Policies still have definitions specific to them included within the document (an example can be found here: https://dev.www.purdue.edu/policies/human-resources/vic1.html#definitions). I maintain the policy glossary based on trends I see among policies.

Specifically: 1. How does your institution manage the relationship between definitions within the glossary and definitions within policy? 2. Does your institution have one universal glossary, or multiple glossaries with different terms of reference/purposes? 3. Does your institution provide guidelines to support the composition of glossary entries? (Style, length etc.) 4. Does your institution have terms of reference for the glossary? (What types of terms 'belong', or don't etc.) Any information that you can provide is greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Holly A.
