Hi Todd-

We include recruiting activities in our
<http://policies.iu.edu/policies/categories/administration-operations/public
-safety-institutional-assurance/PS-01.shtml> Programs Involving Children
policy, both on and off campus. We exclude: "Regularly scheduled classes or
activities designed primarily for enrolled students who are age 17 and
above." That means that orientation, welcome week, etc. are excluded even
though we know we have some minors in that group, and for that matter in the
freshman class. We do have mandatory state reporting for suspected abuse or
neglect of minors so that requirement overrides the scope of our policy and
we are required to notify child protective services if we have a report of
an incident involving an enrolled student under 18.

We are going to post an update to our policy shortly, but the scope will not
change.

All the best,

Jenny

Subject: [acupa-l] Protection of Minor Children

Good afternoon, ACUPA,

We at DePaul are wondering if your policy(-ies) related to the protection of
minor children specifically speak to admission/enrollment management
activities.

If so, what rules/restrictions/flexibilities/exemptions are granted
regarding on campus programs that involve prospective students? We'd love to
know if any of your policies directly call out "prospective students" as a
population, and what ages fall under that umbrella.

Thanks so much!

-Todd
