As a parent of a transgender son, I appreciate this question very much and hope
all institutions of higher education continue to improve language to be
inclusive.

We have a documents standards guide that provides guidelines for writing
policy. It needs to be expanded, but there is a statement that speaks about
gender neutral language. It states:

* Gender neutral pronouns - Avoid using "he", "she", "him" and "her"
pronouns. Instead, use "they" or "employees" to reflect the inclusivity of
non-binary pronouns and fluid gender identity.

Ironically, this guide was developed after the 2016 ACUPA conference. We did
not have anything like this before.

Good luck!

Subject: [acupa-l] Gender Neutral Policy Language

Hello, ACUPA friends,

Do any of your institutions have policy writing guidelines (or something
similar) that speak to the use of gender neutral language in policies? Anything
you'd be willing to share would be fabulous.

Thanks!
Todd
