Tena koutou katoa

Ko Maree Mills Taku ingoa.

Greetings to you all,
My name is Maree Mills
I have been an ADA lurker (and skiver) since its inception at the University of Waikato. I am a lecturer here in the Screen and media Studies department at Waikato where some of you have enjoyed(?) a digital artist residency. I convene the video production papers and belong to that large group of practitioners/artists/teachers attached to the institution so we can get our hands on the resource! I really wanted to be at the meeting to table my research, unfortunately a free ticket to WOMAD steered me west but Stellar has just e-mailed me and reminded me that its time to step out into public view. I've been pretty quiet as continuing without Sean Cubitt's support seemed a daunting reality. (God I'm envious of you Janine.) I am currently enrolled in a doctorate by part practice titled "A multi-media approach to communicating the female element within Maori philosophy for the 21st century" Basically I am placing my own practice (video installation) within the wider context of Maori digital arts in Aotearoa. In brief discussion with Stellar, I was hoping to get ADA involved in this research as I want to organize a hui for Maori digital artists, and get more Maori contributing to the list. I remember a korero about digital mythology that Lisa Reihana initiated last year, and of course Cultural Futures (2005) has voiced issues for Maori working in this area, but I want to initiate something directly focused on Maori. The kaupapa is to network with other Maori artists who are using digital technology to visually communicate Maori worldviews. I'm going to go for CNZ funding in the next round and try here at Waikato and Nga Pae o te Maramatanga, center for Maori research excellence for dollars as well. It would be GREAT to time it, or place it within an ADA event. What do you think? Or should I think about ADA as distribution network and place it within the context of say Nga Puna Waihanga (Maori artists and writers) Hui?
Interested to hear your thoughts.
Heoi ano
Na
Maree
