Indexicality of the Intimate Trace

Presentation of Remixes:
Online now at http://www.intimacyandinyerface.net/

Audio and Video Workshops:
Sat 28th April, Room 2E05, Massey University, Wellington

Indexicality of the Intimate Trace is a new project that responds to the 2006 webcast performance/installation event Intimacy and In.yer.face (www.intimacyandinyerface.net). This new project investigates the creation of space for dialogue and participation in the ever-changing intersection between art and technology. The project also investigates notions of indexicality - the variation of meaning according to context - in contemporary digital media practices.

Indexicality of the Intimate Trace is a two part project involving both an online presentation of digital remix works, and public workshops on the real-time manipulation of audio and video. Both Indexicality of the Intimate Trace and Intimacy and In.yer.face are curated by Daniel Agnihotri-Clark, and form part of his current programme of doctoral research at the Massey University School of Fine Arts.

Presentation of Remixes

Indexicality of the Intimate Trace is proud to announce an online presentation of new digital remix works. These new remixes respond to the works presented at Intimacy and In.yer.face. Participants responded to an open call for remix issued in 2006, and new variant works were made from digital material that was sourced from the works in the performance/installation event.

New remixes have been submitted by Emil McAvoy, Aquaboogie, Kea Folpp, MSISDN, Cathode Ray Nipple, and Marcel Allen. These new works are now available online at www.intimacyandinyerface.net (follow the link entitled 'Indexicality of the Intimate Trace').

Audio and Video Workshops

Indexicality of the Intimate Trace also presents two free public workshops, providing the opportunity for hands on experience in the manipulation of audio and video. These workshops facilitated by local practicing artists are tailored to provide an introduction for complete beginners. The workshops will cover techniques for both software and hardware based manipulation.

Video Workshop
The 'live video' artist VJ Rex will facilitate the 'hardware' section of the workshop, introducing the use of DVJs (DVD players designed for video mixing). The 'live video' artist Dnation will facilitate the 'software' section of the workshop, introducing the manipulation of video loops in real-time on a computer, using common software packages.

Audio Workshop
The scratch turntablist DJ Dars will facilitate the 'hardware' section of the workshop, introducing the manipulation of audio signals from vinyl. The Wellington-based audio producer Disasteradio will facilitate the 'software' section of the workshop, introducing the manipulation of audio in real-time on a computer, using common software packages.

The workshops will be held on Sat 28th April, Massey University, Room 2E05.

10am - 1pm: Video Workshop - with VJ Rex and Dnation
2pm - 5pm : Audio Workshop - with Disasteradio and DJ Dars

The workshops are free of charge, but registrations are limited to 10 people per workshop so be in quick... The closing date for registration is Wednesday 25th April. Please contact Louise Menzies to register at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or via phone 04 8012794 x6197.

Background of Intimacy and In.yer.face

Intimacy and In.yer.face was a live webcast performance/installation event, located in the nexus between art and technology, curated by Daniel Agnihotri-Clark. Intimacy and In.yer.face featured simultaneous live performances and interactive installations, with real-time audio and video signals broadcast over the internet on 20 July 2006. The event featured an interdisciplinary selection of local and international artists, with new works by the globally dispersed cyberformance troupe Avatar Body Collision (New Zealand, London, Helsinki), the interdisciplinary artist Kartini Thomas (Wellington), aerialists/actors Pipi-Ayesha Evans and Rhys Latton (Wellington), and the 'live audio' and 'live video' artists Damian Stewart and Emil McAvoy (Wellington). The performance/installation event took place simultaneously at the old Museum Building, Massey University, Wellington, and at an undisclosed location in Paris, France, and at the website www.intimacyandinyerface.net.
