Fans of all things cinematic and digital may be interested to come and see Looklessness, a light/sound installation by film–makers/ musicians Sam Hamilton and Eve Gordon on now at the Film Archive in Wellington. Following the path of direct to film animator Len Lye the duo have created abstract worlds of patterned image via the old analogue method of drawing, painting and scratching on films surface, but have also randomly erased blocks of digital code which is rendered as image. Looklessness is arranged for four screens and features an experimental soundtrack by Hamilton constructed in part from field recordings under the Civic Theatre. Sam and Eve will also perform live this Saturday night, 7pm at the Archive in a production dubbed Light-mantled Sooty Albatross. Tickets $8 / $6. www.filmarchive.org.nz
